How to get motivated: Creative Business Tips

Inertia. She can be your saving grace or a cruel mistress. When you've already been working steadily, inertia can carry you through long nights and tight deadlines; the projects fly from your fingertips.

But we just enjoyed several weeks of holidays, and you probably took a little break, didn't you? I know I did. It was nice, it was relaxing, and at the end I decided I wanted to lie on my couch and read books forever. Inertia made it extremely difficult to get back to work this week. Can I get an "amen"?

The key, I have found, to battling inertia is to start slowly and take projects one at a time. Don't look at your entire to-do list at once! That'll scare you right back to the couch. Instead, grab your favorite beverage, turn on some good music, and tackle one task. Not even a whole project, just one part of it. When it's finished, congratulate yourself. And move on to the next task. Then then next. And hey, maybe one more...

See the ball starting to roll again? Feel your grove coming back? Now inertia's working for you instead of against you.

What do you do to motivate yourself?
